A Case of Juvenile Diabetic Coma

Abstract

|
We experienced a case of Juvenile diabetes mellitus with coma in a 20-month-old male baby.
On admission, he was comatous and markedly dehydrated and he illustrated Ku^smauI respiration. Laboratory data showed 750 mg% of blood sugar and 4-f- of urine sugar. Just after admission, fluid therapy and insulin therapy were started. Twenty four hours after therapy, he awoke from unconsciousness and general condition was improved. His symptoms and signs were controlled with 16 U/day of regular insulin. On 7 th hospital day, regular insulin was replaced to 14 U to N.P.H. On 26 th day, he discharged with control with 9 U of N.P.H. The case is presented with brief review of literature.
